Positive Behaviour Support
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a multi-component, person centred framework for delivering a range of evidence-based supports to increase quality of life and reduce the occurrence, severity or impact of behaviours that challenge.
We believe in creating capable environments where individuals can thrive. Coproduction ensures a genuine collaborative method for developing consistent team approaches, where building rapport and understanding are prioritised. Where establishing routines and supportive working practices achieve positive outcomes.
Our multidisciplinary teams will work collaboratively to develop positive behaviour support plans designed to maximise recovery and independence, reducing risk and the need for behaviours of concern.
As part of our positive behaviour approach we will:-
- Work with the individual and other stake holders to improve quality of life
- Complete a functional assessment of behaviour
- Modify and personalise environments (Physical and social)
- Support develop of functional skills over reactive strategies
- Provide positive reinforcement and systematic feedback
- Adopt predictable, planned interventions, to de-escalate and encourage autonomy
Our multidisciplinary teams will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the positive behaviour support plan and modify as necessary.
Prescribed PRN medication to address behaviours of concern may be referenced within a positive behaviour support plan, however; positive behaviour support should be used as an alternative to psychotropic medication whenever possible
