Coveberry Oakwood House: Stoke-on-Trent
Oakwood is a specialist supported living service designed for men and women aged 18 and over who have been diagnosed with a learning disability and/or autism, often alongside mental health challenges and behavioural support needs. The service is tailored for individuals who may find it difficult to consistently function independently, maintain employment, build positive relationships, or cope with the everyday demands of life. At Oakwood House, we provide a structured and supportive environment that empowers individuals to regain control over their lives while living with dignity and independence.
The accommodation consists of ten self-contained flats, each designed to provide privacy and personal space, with shared communal kitchens that foster social interaction and a sense of community. Supported living is a positive alternative to traditional residential care, offering individuals the opportunity to build and consolidate essential life skills. It also provides a valuable setting for assessing support needs and identifying areas for growth, all within an environment that closely mirrors independent living.
At Oakwood House, each individual holds their own tenancy and is responsible for managing their personal finances, with tailored support provided according to their specific needs. Our care model recognises that no two individuals are alike; the frequency and intensity of support are adapted as each person develops resilience, confidence, and greater independence. Our experienced care teams work collaboratively with service users to help them identify personal goals and move towards achieving them at a pace that respects their comfort and capacity.
Support is guided by the "My Journey in the Community" model, offering 24/7 assistance that evolves in line with each person’s progress. Our team provides one-to-one support aimed at enhancing independent living skills, such as budgeting, managing tenancy responsibilities, medication adherence, and developing safe, healthy relationships. We also encourage participation in social, vocational, and community-based activities that enrich life and promote a sense of belonging.
Oakwood House welcomes adults of any gender who have a diagnosis of learning disability and/or autism, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions. Individuals should be capable of managing a tenancy with support, whether they are accessing our service informally, or are subject to a Community Treatment Order or under the jurisdiction of the Court of Protection. Our goal is to offer a supportive, person-centred environment that encourages autonomy, self-determination, and a meaningful life within the community.
